What we don't do — honest boundaries of Leadline
A short piece on the things Leadline deliberately does not do, and why. If you've ever wondered whether Leadline is X, this is the answer for X = list vendor, spam engine, predictive dialer, etc.

The fastest way to disappoint a customer is to be something they’re not. Leadline is a Chrome extension + a SaaS workspace for finding and calling local businesses. That’s it. There are a lot of things Leadline is not, and this post is about those.
If you’ve ever wondered “is Leadline X?” and X is on this list, the answer is no. If X isn’t on this list, the answer might be yes — ask.
Leadline is not a list vendor
You do not buy prospect data from us. We don’t aggregate contact lists, we don’t license third-party data, we don’t sell you 50,000 rows for $200.
The rows in your list came from your browser, your Google Maps session, your clicks. You harvested them. We read them out of the DOM and wrote them to your storage. The rows are yours, not ours.
If you want a list, buy one from a list vendor — there are good ones. We won’t pretend to compete on that axis. Our pitch is that a freshly-harvested row is worth more than a stale list-vendor row, not that we have a list.
Leadline is not a spam engine
There is no list-blast mode. There is no ringless voicemail. There is no auto-dial-and-hang-up. There is no parallel calling, no whisper coaching, no call-centre queue.
When you place a call through Leadline, your browser calls the lead’s phone. The lead hears the phone ring. They pick up or they don’t. If they pick up, you talk. If they don’t, the dialer files the outcome and moves to the next lead.
This is not the most efficient way to place calls. It’s the most honest. We assume that if you’re calling local businesses, you want them to know it’s a real person on the other end. If you’re not calling real people, this isn’t the product for you.
Leadline is not a predictive dialer
A predictive dialer places multiple calls in parallel and patches in the agent who connects first. It assumes that some percentage of calls won’t be answered and fills the gap by calling more numbers.
Leadline does not do this. One call at a time, one number on the line. The next lead is queued, but it doesn’t dial until the current call ends.
Predictive dialers are the right tool for high-volume campaigns where answer rates are predictable (e.g. confirmations, collections). They are not the right tool for local business prospecting, where the value of each call is high and the relationship matters.
Leadline is not a CRM
Leadline stores leads, stages, calls, notes. It is enough to run a prospecting workflow. It is not enough to run a customer relationship after the sale closes.
If you want a CRM, use HubSpot or Pipedrive. Leadline syncs to both via webhook. The CRM is the system of record for the post-sale relationship; Leadline is the workspace for the pre-sale conversation.
If you try to use Leadline as a CRM, you’ll be frustrated — there’s no deal-close workflow, no email-sequencing, no marketing automation. That’s a feature, not a bug. We are focused on the job before the sale.
Leadline is not magic at compliance
There is no built-in DNC suppression that handles every state and every federal list. There is no consent tracking that meets GDPR or CCPA out of the box. There is no automatic scrub against the federal TCPA list.
Your carrier handles DNC suppression at the network level if you turn it on. State-level DNC scrubbing is on you. GDPR / CCPA consent tracking is on you. We do not pretend otherwise.
If you operate in a heavily-regulated vertical (HIPAA-adjacent, financial services, etc.), Leadline is not the right tool. Use a tool that has compliance built in.
Leadline is not a workaround for anti-scraping measures
If Google returns a different page to your browser because it thinks you’re a bot, you get the different page. Leadline reads what your browser sees.
We do not maintain a fleet of residential proxies. We do not rotate user agents to evade detection. We do not solve CAPTCHAs for you. If Maps gives you 200 results for a query, Leadline can harvest those 200. If Maps gives you a CAPTCHA, Leadline sees the CAPTCHA.
This is by design. A tool that tries to evade anti-scraping measures is a tool that is in an arms race with the site. We are not in an arms race. We use your browser, your session, your cookie jar. If Maps is okay with that, Leadline works. If Maps isn’t, Leadline doesn’t.
Leadline is not a replacement for a sales team
Leadline gives a sales team leverage. It does not give a sales team replacements.
You still need to know what to say on a call. You still need to qualify the lead. You still need to write the email follow-up. You still need to close.
Leadline makes the parts of the job that are repetitive (harvesting, dialing, filing outcomes) less repetitive. The parts that require judgment (the conversation, the qualification, the close) are still on you.
What Leadline is
Leadline is a Chrome extension + a SaaS workspace for finding and calling local businesses. It works best for:
- Solo operators who prospect one market and dial a list every morning.
- Agencies with multiple clients who need a workspace per client and operators per workspace.
- In-house SDR teams who need shared leads, shared call records, and dashboards.
If you’re in one of those, Leadline is the right tool. If you’re not — if you’re selling to B2B decision-makers, if you need a predictive dialer, if you’re looking for a list, if compliance is your primary concern — Leadline is not the right tool, and there are products out there that are.
That’s the boundary. We try to stay inside it.
